TUMESCENT LIPOSUCTION BY PARFAIRE

What is Liposuction?

Liposuction is one of the most dramatic and rapid ways to remove excess body fat and to shape and contour the body. It is a cosmetic surgical procedure that uses a suction technique to remove large amounts of excess unwanted fat. A regular liposuction treatment requires a patient to be under general anesthesia. Some of the risks and side effects of liposuction include bleeding, pain, soreness, and bruising.

What is Tumescent Liposuction?

Tumescent liposuction is a newer form of liposuction. The main benefit of tumescent liposuction is that it is performed without the use of general anesthesia and instead uses local anesthesia. While there are still risks and side effects related to tumescent liposuction, they are much less severe than regular liposuction. Some possible side effects are mild burning where the local anesthesia is administered, mild pain at the treatment site, mild discomfort, and minimal bleeding.

Tumescent liposuction is considered a safer alternative to liposuction while still providing good fat removal and body contouring results. Another advantage is that it minimizes the movement of internal body fluids that can occur when removing large quantities of fat which could cause low blood pressure.

In summation, the main benefits of local Tumescent anesthesia are:

  • Minimal blood loss
  • Improved aesthetic results
  • Minimal post-procedure pain with
  • prolonged 24-hour local anesthesia
  • Rapid post-procedure recovery

What areas can Tumescent Liposuction Treat?

Tumescent liposuction can remove fat from almost all areas of the body such as the face, neck, chin, stomach, thighs, hips, “love handles,” back, knees, and bra fat.

When can you see the results of a Tumescent Liposuction?

The post-procedure swelling should be gone within a few days of the treatment. Initial results are noticeable in two to three weeks. The full benefit of the procedure will be seen in about three to six months.

How is a Tumescent Liposuction Performed?

Tumescent liposuction uses a saline solution combined with a dilute local anesthetic, epinephrine, and adrenaline which are combined and injected into the treatment area. The injected area becomes locally anesthetized to alleviate any pain. Sometimes a mild oral sedative is given to help relax and reduce any anxiety. After the anesthesia takes effect, a metal tube called a cannula is inserted into small incisions in the skin and then suction is used to remove the unwanted fat cells. The incisions and the cannula are very small so it heals without the use of sutures and leaves minimal to no scarring.

As part of the procedure, a large volume of dilute lidocaine is injected into the targeted area to be treated before the liposuction which causes the fat to swell and increase firmness. This solution enables better accuracy in fat removal and minimizes rippling of the skin and other potential skin irregularities. Also, the tumescent solution substantially minimizes bruising, blood loss, and post-operative soreness.

Are the results of a Tumescent Liposuction permanent?

Once the fat cells are removed, they do not come back and are permanently gone. However, if there is weight gain post-treatment, the new weight can move into the treated area and affect the results.

What activities can be performed after the procedure?

After the procedure, patients are able to get up and walk out with minimal discomfort and are able to resume normal daily activities in one or two days. Light exercise can be resumed in about a week. Strenuous exercise should be avoided for about one to two weeks.

Who is a good candidate for Tumescent Liposuction?

People who are generally healthy, active, and of average to near average weight but have areas of stubborn unwanted fat that are difficult to lose with diet and exercise are ideal candidates for liposuction. This treatment is able to target those areas of fat that are difficult to lose through diet and exercise.
