Microneedling is a minimally-invasive skin treatment that reduces and corrects facial wrinkles, and fine lines. Microneedling transforms rough, scarred and/or damaged skin into a smoother, healthier texture. It effectively tightens and tones skin, and can be used nearly everywhere: on the face, neck, decolletage, hands, and body. It stimulates natural collagen production which helps natural healing and renews skin.
Microneedling is proven to be effective at improving rough or damaged skin texture, acne scars, stretch marks, skin laxity, wrinkles and fine lines, large pores, alopecia and hair regeneration.
A microneedling treatment is based on the concept of causing micro-injuries to the skin using small pins to puncture and penetrate the skin surface to induce our skin’s natural wound healing response which generates healthier new skin. Microneedles are stamped over the targeted areas, such as the face, neck, chest or any part of the body, leaving tiny puncture wounds. Our body responds with a healing process called neocollagenesis, which results in the production of new collagen, elastin and nurturing blood vessels to the areas.
The microneedling treatment comes in different pin sizes to reach different depths, from 0.25mm, 0.5mm to 1.0mm. The best pin size is determined by the condition being treated.
Microneedling treatments are often combined with medical grade Hyaluronic Acid/Stem Cytokines™, Epidermal Growth Factor, or Platelet-Rich Plasma (PRP).
Microneedling works well with all skin types, including darker skin types.
Results are seen as soon as two days after the treatment with the skin plumped and glowing with some mild inflammation and swelling post-treatment. In the following days and weeks, the skin is healed and more radiant, refreshed, and firmer. Over the next six months, new collagen and elastin production continues for long lasting healthy, plump skin.
A microneedling treatment has no required recovery time which makes it an accessible option for patients who want to see immediate improvements and better skin with a medical grade procedure but without any real downtime.
For the best results, 3 to 4 treatments spaced 4 to 6 weeks apart are recommended.
The microneedling treatment takes about 45-60 minutes, plus approximately 20 minutes pre-treatment for application of the numbing cream.
There is mild poking of the skin so prior to your treatment, topical numbing (lidocaine) is applied to the area being treated. The lidocaine numbs that area to reduce any discomfort. Some people may be more sensitive to microneedling than others.
Depending on the conditions and severity of the condition we are treating. For most people with the goal of improving rough texture, large pores and acne scars, we recommend a series of microneedling treatments for best and longer lasting results. With regular skin care maintenance the result can last up to 18 months or longer.
When combined with Platelet Rich Plasma or PRP, the many benefits of microneedling are greatly enhanced plus you’ll be receiving the benefits of the PRP. Although there is little to no downtime with microneedling, adding PRP reduces the healing time while promoting and increasing cell turnover. Adding PRP to your microneedling treatment creates a dermal-infused serum that gets stamped into the microchannels that are created from the needle punctures with every pass of the hand-piece. The seven main growth factors found in PRP are proven to facilitate tissue repair, cell regeneration and collagen synthesis to firm, lift and restore irritated and aging skin. In addition, PRP is obtained from your own body, only 10 ml of your blood is drawn into a special tube, centrifuged, then 6 ml of concentrated platelet plasma enriched with growth factors are directly sent back to the area treated through microneedling.
Adding Livra™ MD Hyaluronic Acid and Stem Cytokines™ to your microneedling treatment helps to infuse the microchannels with such components lost as we age. Hyaluronic acid is to our skin’s health, it accounts for 60% of skin hydration purposes, and helps support skin’s structure much like collagen does. Stem Cytokines act as our body’s command center, sending out signals to fight inflammation and free radical oxidation related to stress and age.
